Thanks to the generosity of local benefactor Raymond A Whitwer and fundraising efforts through the Tilden Library Foundation and Friends of the Library, the Raymond A. Whitwer Tilden Public Library held its grand opening on October 21, 2001. Attached to the 14,400 square foot library building is the 2,100 square foot Lied Auditorium, funded through the Lied Foundation based out of Las Vegas, which is used for a variety of library programs and events and can be rented by groups, organizations and individuals for public and private functions.
Within the library is a collection of nearly 25,000 print and audio books, movies, magazines and other material, a computer lab containing 10 public Internet access computers, 1 ADA computer with enhanced software, 3 non-Internet access children's computers, and free public access Wi-Fi throughout the building. The library also has numerous artifacts and displays, including a large memorabilia collection of Tilden's own Phillies Hall of Famer, Richie Ashburn.
